Back to school check-in and shout out to my fellow single mothers out here DOING the doggone thing!
How are you doing now that the kids are back in school? You’re probably actually able to apply yourself, now, IF you are blessed to be of the work from home crew. It may not have felt like such a blesssing having to be security for the refrigerator and the pantry closet. Now that they are, do NOT forget to find yourself some ME time, sister friend and girl time. All things that rejuvenate, support and refill your cup, aside from you divine refill.
That being said, all that is on your plate, be sure to practice self care, betwixt and in between. Meaning, don’t WAIT to take care of you. Do that AS you go along! For example, starting connecting with other parents you may meet when you go to back to school night (please go if you can) or volunteer for the halloween party or homecoming. This will help you meet other parents and see if their child rearing style share similar standards. If so, you all can set play dates, which will of course, give you some me time without having to have a “sitter.” Setting yourself up to have some me time whether the non-custodial parent is involved or not. Finding ways to get relief and some little breaks for yourself is crucial. You’re worth it so establish it before you need it.
Hopefully you were able to get all the school supplies and clothing your children needed. There were and still are lots of existing programs that can help. One thing we learn as single mothers is to be resourceful. Finding programs, food pantries, cold weather and energy program sign ups, etc.
